Harvesting Capacity

Harvesting capacity denotes the quantity of plants harvested per time unit. Depending on the length of the time period based on which the harvesting capacity is calculated we discriminate between basic harvesting capacity and total harvesting capacity. The basic harvesting capacity expresses a machine’s ability to achieve a certain cutting speed which is usually 2 – 5 ha/hours of a cut plant that is cut into 2-3 parts. The basic harvesting capacity depends on the height of hemp, weather, lying of the stand and on the driver’s skills. The total harvesting capacity is calculated for a day, month or season and is always lower than the basic harvesting capacity, because it includes all idle time such as work breaks, transfers between fields, machine maintenance, waiting for better weather, etc. The total harvesting capacity differs in various hemp cultivation areas. The recommended area harvested by the Clipper machine in the Czech Republic is 600 ha/season; however, weather permitting, up to 1000 ha can be harvested per season.
